An update of sorts…

I’d like to catch you up on a couple of things. First of all, I am highly pleased to share that my friend Anthony Haynes was not executed by the State of Texas on October the 18! He was granted a stay by the Supreme Court literally hours before he was to be executed, and they will be re-reviewing his case. We are praying for a new trial and a favorable verdict. Praise God! This is truly a blessing.

Things are going amazingly well. There have been a couple of minor hiccups but for the most part, all is well. I’m so glad that the weather is starting to change! I am so over summer and high temperatures, and it was getting to be a little ridiculous. Lately the high has been in the low-to-mid 80s, but that’s still too warm for mid-to-late October, don’t you think? It’s past time for some Fall-like weather! You already know it will warm up again after a few days, but it won’t be quite as warm. I’ll take it!

Speaking of changes, I am truly excited because my life is about to change drastically within the next 3 months…just a couple of hours ago, I purchased my one-way flight to NYC via LaGuardia Airport on January 30 2013. From there, on to an M-60 bus which will take me to my new home in Harlem. I’ve already notified my landlord, roommate, family and friends, and as far as my job is concerned, I’ve given verbal notification and have drawn up a resignation letter. I’d be lying if I said I am not scared, but for once in my life, the anticipation of change far outweighs my fear of change.

The events of the last few years have set in motion a plan, a plan which I didn’t even know existed until quite recently. Moving to NYC is something that I’ve wanted for about five years now, and,  with the help of some friends (you know who you are), I finally decided that I’d might as well go ahead and just do it. So, to my friends and family: All of you have been so supportive and helpful to me in coming to this decision and, most importantly, helping me to make it happen, as well. I really don’t know what I’d do without you all pushing me and pressing me on and giving me encouragement when I let doubt take over, and I am grateful for y’all.

I am also grateful for the realistic viewpoints, advice and information that I’ve obtained from various sources on the internet along the way. I have pages and pages of job leads; I’ve also been working on updating my resume, because after being at my current job for the last six years, even though I had previously updated and tailored it to suit the requirements of the part-time positions for which I was applying, it still needed a bit of tweaking.

So, I’m ready. All I have to do now is figure out what’s going with me and what’s staying here for my current roommate to ship to me once I get settled. I’m looking forward to my internship and also to the opportunities that await me. Houston will always be my home but every little bird has to leave the nest at some point, right?

  1. That’s amazing news! I think it’s great that you’re able to take such an exciting step!

  2. Congrats and I’m happy to hear about your friend. I hope all goes well with you and the transition. One of these days, I’ll be able to do something different, but of course, it’s a hard thing to do with minimal resources, kids and not much support. Anyway, I hope that when you move, you continue to keep me in your prayers and stay in touch. Gonna miss you ol krazii woman ♥
